Aerosmith is an American Hard Rock band founded 1971 in Boston by original members Joe Perry (guitar), Tom Hamilton (bass), Steven Tyler (vocals), Joey Kramer (drums) and Ray Tabano, who was soon replaced by Brad Whitford on guitar. Their style, which is rooted in blues-based hard-rock also incorporated elements of pop, heavy metal and glam rock. Their first two albums Aerosmith (1973) and Get Your Wings (1974) were derided by critics as Rolling Stones knockoffs, but their third album, the excellent Toys in the Attic (1975), showed that Aerosmith was a unique and talented band in their own right. Their fourth album Rocks (1976) is regarded as their finest album, which also enjoyed massive commercial success, going quadruple platinum. Aerosmith has to-date delivered sixteen studio albums, and is the best selling American hard rock band of all time. Standout albums include Get Your Wings, Toys in the Attic and Rocks. Guitar ace Joe Perry, who featured on their best albums, left the band in 1979 to form the Joe Perry Project, but returned to the fold in 1984. Although there has been an ongoing media buzz about a simmering feud between the two front-men. The band's music has also been featured in video games, such as Dead or Alive and Grand Theft Auto, and some video games are centered on the band, like Quest for Fame and Revolution X. Aerosmith was the first band to have its band-centered Guitar Hero title, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, which is the best-selling band-centric video game across both the Guitar Hero and Rock Band platforms
