Clan of Xymox is a Dutch goth-rock band formed 1981 in Nijmegen, Netherlands, by Ronny Moorings, Anka Wolbert, and Pieter Nooten. Their first breakthrough happened when they signed to the 4AD label and toured the UK supporting Dead Can Dance. Their dark and melancholic sound was admired by DJ John Peel, who dubbed their style "darkwave". Their first two albums on 4AD; Clan of Xymox and Medusa, are amongst their strongest work. For their third album Twist of Shadows the bands shortened their name to "Xymox" and the album developed a cult following on the USA College circuit, sparked by the singles "Blind Hearts", "Obsession" and "Imagination". Nooten and Wolbert left the band after their lacklustre fourth album Phoenix, and the band carried on led by Moorings, with additional members. The band is still active and has released 17 studio albums. Outstanding releases include Clan of Xymox, Medusa, Twist of Shadows, Hidden Faces and Live (2000).
