Anna von Hausswolff is a Swedish singer, pianist, organist and songwriter born 1986 Gothenburg, Sweden. Von Hausswolff's gothic-style music combines elements of neoclassical, experimental, and gothic genres, and is described as Art-Pop, Drone, and Post-Metal. Anna comes from a rich musical background. Her father, Carl Michael von Hausswolff, is an avant-garde sound artist and composer, and her mother, Karin, is a visual artist. Anna developed a deep appreciation for creativity and expression from a young age. She started taking piano lessons as a child and quickly began experimenting with different sounds and styles influenced by classical composers like Chopin and Bach, plus contemporary musicians like PJ Harvey and Kate Bush. In 2010 she released her debut album Singing from the Grave which received praise for its ethereal sound and haunting melodies. The album showcased her talent as a songwriter and composer, blending elements of darkwave, post-rock, and ambient music to create a sound that was both mesmerizing and unsettling. To-date Anna has released Five studio albums, including the excellent Ceremony (2012), The Miraculous (2015), and Dead Magic (2018), plus the astounding Live at Montreux Jazz Festival (2022). Each album has received critical acclaim for its innovative sound and emotional depth, with Anna's powerful vocals and intricate arrangements leaving a lasting impression. Anna has also collaborated with bands Wolves in the Throne Room, Swans, Sunn O))), and Yann Tiersen. One key feature of her music is the pipe organ which features prominently in many of her songs, adding a hightened sense of grandeur and drama. As a songwriter, Anna's introspective lyrics explore themes of mortality, spirituality, and the human experience, reflecting her own struggles and emotions in a way that resonates with listeners on a profound level. In December 2021, von Hausswolff cancelled her planned concert at the Notre-Dame de Bon-Port in Nantes, France, following boycott demands from fundamentalist Catholic groups, who blocked the church's entrance. Their complaints stem from the artist's 2009 song "Pills" which features the lyrics "I made love with the devil." Von Hausswolff has denied the accusations of Satanism.
