Cocteau Twins | Head Over Heels | Album
Head Over Heels is the second studio album by the Scottish rock band Cocteau Twins, released in October 1983 on the 4AD label. The album is considered an archetype of early ethereal wave music and a pivotal moment in defining the band's signature sound. Recorded as a duo by singer Elizabeth Fraser and guitarist Robin Guthrie after the departure of original bassist Will Heggie, the album moved the band's sound on from the starker post-punk and gothic rock of their debut, Garlands. The album is characterized by Guthrie's "lush, textured guitars" and heavy use of effects and layering, which he cited as being influenced by Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound".
