Released in 1964 on Folkways Records (catalog FW02351), Dock Boggs: Legendary Singer and Banjo Player marked the first new recordings by the Appalachian legend following his rediscovery by Mike Seeger. Recorded in 1963, these sessions captured Boggs' distinctive three-finger banjo style and "lonesome" vocals after decades of working in coal mines. The album features iconic renditions of "Country Blues" and "Oh Death". Produced by Mike Seeger and Ralph Rinzler, the original release included detailed liner notes with banjo tunings and biographical background. The album has been reissued several times, including a 2018 vinyl release as part of the Smithsonian Folkways 70th Anniversary Series.
