Ja Ja Tao’s breakout 2016 debut album, The Rite of Spring, is one of the most fiercely original, unsettling, and critically acclaimed underground Chinese noise rock and grunge albums ever released. Led by Berklee College of Music alumnus Liu Yucao, the band delivers an uncompromisingly heavy wall of sound that blends Western alternative music with traditional Chinese folk elements to map out the collective anxieties, contradictions, and historical weight felt by modern Chinese youth.
