Mingus Dynasty (originally released in 1960) is an excellent, transitional post-bop classic that captures the bassist-composer at the height of his creative powers. Recorded in 1959 just months after his historic Mingus Ah Um, it frequently suffers from being unfairly overlooked in his canon because it rests directly in the shadow of its legendary predecessor.
