High Rise’s second album, High Rise II, is widely regarded as a cornerstone of Japanese underground music and one of the most intense "heavy psych" records ever made. Originally released in 1986 on the P.S.F. Records label, it captures the Tokyo trio at their most aggressive, blending garage rock, punk, and "no wave" into a high-speed, distorted wall of sound. Critics frequently describe the album as a "tour de force" of improvised rock that pushes audio levels "fully in-the-red". The record is defined by Asahito Nanjo’s "distorted thunder bass" and Munehiro Narita’s "wildly narrative" and "incendiary" lead guitar work.
