Released in July 1968, Super Session is a landmark blues-rock classic that effectively popularized the concept of the rock "supergroup". Conceived by multi-instrumentalist and producer Al Kooper, the album was intended to mimic the raw, spontaneous jam-session blueprint of 1950s Blue Note jazz records. The resulting record is an incredible, accidental "Jekyll and Hyde" experiment split into two distinct halves due to mid-session drama. It remains one of the most essential, effortless-sounding artifacts of late-60s guitar virtuosic expression.
