Released in 1969, Five Leaves Left is the debut studio album by English singer-songwriter Nick Drake. While it was largely overlooked during his lifetime, it is now revered as a "folk classic" and one of the most beautiful and melancholy debut albums ever recorded. The album is defined by Drake's delicate "speak-singing" vocals and technical, melodic acoustic guitar picking. Unlike his starkly minimal final album Pink Moon, this debut features rich, chamber-folk orchestration. Arrangement by Robert Kirby added an "autumnal" and "baroque" vibe to tracks like "Way to Blue" and "Day Is Done". The album includes notable performances from Danny Thompson (double bass) and Richard Thompson (electric guitar).
