Alexander "Skip" Spence’s Oar (1969) is a haunting, brilliant, and deeply unsettling classic of outsider psych-folk. Recorded over seven days in Nashville following Spence's six-month stint in Bellevue Hospital, the album features the former Jefferson Airplane drummer and Moby Grape co-founder playing every single instrument himself. Originally delivered to Columbia Records as what Spence considered bare-bones demos, it was released untouched and became one of the lowest-selling albums in the label's history. Today, it stands as a legendary cult classic.
