The Owl Service’s debut album, A Garland of Song, is a masterful reimagining of the 1960s and 70s British folk revival. Originally released in a micro-edition in 2007 before receiving wider distribution via Southern Records in 2008, the record single-handedly breathed new life into the "wyrd" and acid-folk genres. Named after Alan Garner’s cult classic children's novel, the band approaches traditional English folk music not as a dusty museum piece, but as a living, breathing, and occasionally terrifying tapestry.
