The Pin Group’s Retrospective, a 1997 compilation album released by Siltbreeze, is a crucial artifact of New Zealand's post-punk history. Fronted by experimental drone pioneer Roy Montgomery, the short-lived Christchurch trio left a seismic footprint on the antipodean indie scene by releasing the very first single on the foundational Flying Nun Records label. Retrospective captures the entirety of their brilliant, 17-month lifespan, documenting an evolution from stark, monochromatic gloom to the faint, shimmering origins of the "Dunedin Sound".
