Released on March 1, 1973, The Dark Side of the Moon is the eighth studio album by English rock band Pink Floyd. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential albums in music history, exploring deep philosophical themes such as time, greed, conflict, and mental illness. The album has sold over 50 million copies worldwide and remained on the Billboard charts for a record-breaking 741 weeks (1973–1988). Recorded at Abbey Road Studios, it utilized then-advanced techniques like multitrack recording, tape loops, and analog synthesizers.

The art for Dark Side of the Moon was created by Storm Thorgerson's London based design group Hipgnosis. The image which virtualy became Pink Floyd's trademark depicts a light dispersing prism and came from a science textbook. Hipgnosis went on to create hundreds more famous album covers in the 70's.
