Justice is a Frence electro-house music duo formed 2003 in Paris by multi-instrumentalists Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay. The duo have constantly redefined what dance music means, adding prog, metal, new wave, and indie to their vintage funk, disco, and house foundations. Starting with the Grammy-nominated 2007 single "D.A.N.C.E." and that year's full-length † (aka Cross), the Parisian duo defined the brash, stylish appeal of their label, Ed Banger Records, in the mid- to late 2000s. Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay began making music in the early 2000s, and first appeared on Musclorvision's Hits Up to You!, a 2003 compilation of songs intended to sound like Eurovision song contest entries. That year, Justice also remixed Simian's "Never Be Alone" for a college radio song contest. French electronic music label Ed Banger signed the duo and released the single, which eventually became popular in England and Germany as well as France. In 2005, Augé and de Rosnay released Justice's debut single, "Waters of Nazareth." During this time, they also established themselves as prolific remixers, reworking songs for artists including N.E.R.D., Britney Spears, Death from Above 1979, Fatboy Slim, Daft Punk, Franz Ferdinand, and Mr. Oizo while working on their debut album. That album, "Cross" was released in June 2007 to critical acclaim and was later nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album and came in at number 15 on Pitchfork's "Top 50 Albums of 2007". The duo has since released a total of five albums (including one remix), plus many EP's and Singles. Standout releases include Cross (2007), Planisphère EP (2008), Women Worldwide Remixes (2018), Hyperdrama (2024), and the 2007 compilation Ed Banger / Because Music Present Justice. In 2018, Ed Banger celebrated its 15th anniversary. To celebrate this anniversary, Pedro Winter organized a concert on 31 March 2018 at the Grand Rex with covers of the label's flagship titles, old or recent, played by a symphony orchestra of 70 musicians (Orchestre Lamoureux) conducted by Thomas Roussel. Gaspard was also chosen to compose the music for the film Rubber with Mr. Oizo. He also makes an appearance in the film in the role of a hitchhiker. Xavier de Rosnay, The son of a Vietnamese-born dentist and a human resources director of a Parisian hospital, has been compared to Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk in terms of being the "talkative" one of their respective duos, as opposed to the "quieter one" being Augé.
