Claudio Abbado’s approach to Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 9 in C major, D. 944, "The Great", is immortalised in two benchmark interpretations. The first is his highly polished 1987 studio cycle with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe (COE). The second is a 2011 live recording with the Orchestra Mozart, which was released posthumously by Deutsche Grammophon in 2015.
