Nick Lowe’s second solo album, Labour of Lust (1979), is widely celebrated as a classic of power-pop, New Wave, and pub rock. While his 1978 solo debut, Jesus of Cool (released in the US as Pure Pop for Now People), behaved like an eclectic, genre-hopping jukebox, Labour of Lust delivers a cohesive, tight, and highly muscular band performance. This is largely due to Lowe’s backing band, Rockpile—featuring guitarists Dave Edmunds and Billy Bremner, alongside powerhouse drummer Terry Williams—who recorded this album side-by-side with Edmunds' own landmark record, Repeat When Necessary.
