Named after his famous nickname, Slowhand (1977) captures a relaxed, self-assured Clapton. Moving away from the heavier psychedelic blues of Cream and the raw anguish of Derek and the Dominos, this record leans into a smooth blend of country-rock, blues, and pop. Backed by a stellar band featuring Mel Collins (saxophone) and Marcy Levy (backing vocals), the instrumentation is clean, tight, and effortlessly fluid.
