Released in 1969, King Crimson’s debut record In The Court Of The Crimson King is considered a towering masterpiece of progressive rock. By seamlessly weaving jazz, folk, and symphonic classical influences into an abrasive yet beautiful sonic tapestry, the album established a definitive blueprint for prog.

The art for In the Court of the Crimson King was created by UK amateur artist Barry Godber. The striking image commissioned by Pete Sinfield was designed to make the album stand out in record shops. Robert Fripp now owns the original painting and fiercely guards copyright control over its use.
