Wake of the Flood is the sixth studio album by the Grateful Dead, originally released on October 15, 1973. It was the first album on the band's own Grateful Dead Records label and marked a new, jazzier era for the band. This was the first studio album without founding member Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, who had recently died. It was also the first to feature Keith Godchaux on keyboards and his wife Donna Jean Godchaux on vocals. Reviewers at the time praised the album's intricate musicianship and noted a transition towards a more sophisticated sound. The album produced several live staples, including "Eyes of the World" and "Stella Blue".
