Often hailed as a "masterwork" of early electronic and kosmische music, Cluster '71 is the self-titled debut by the duo of Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius. Released in 1971, it represents a radical departure from traditional musical structures, eschewing melody, standard rhythm, and conventional instruments in favour of pure aural abstraction. It is described as a collection of "deep and spaced out drone pieces". Reviewers often note its lack of recognizable instruments, instead hearing "pulses," "splashes of noise," and "electrical currents" produced via organs, guitars, and audio generators processed through heavy amplification.
