AC/DC’s Back in Black, released on 25 July 1980, is the second-best-selling album in music history, with an estimated 50 million copies sold worldwide. The album was recorded following the death of lead singer Bon Scott in February 1980. The all-black cover was designed as a sign of mourning. It was the first album to feature Brian Johnson on vocals, who was recruited shortly after Scott’s funeral. Produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange, the album was recorded over seven weeks at Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas. As of late 2024, it was certified 27x Platinum by the RIAA, making it the third-best-selling album in the US and the highest-selling album that never reached #1 on the US charts. The album features rock staples including "Hells Bells", "Shoot to Thrill", "You Shook Me All Night Long", and the title track, "Back in Black".
