Released on November 9, 1973, Piano Man is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Billy Joel. It served as his major-label breakthrough after signing with Columbia Records, following legal issues with his previous label. The signature song, "Piano Man," is a fictionalized account of Joel's real-life experience working as a lounge singer named "Bill Martin" at the Executive Room bar in Los Angeles. It peaked at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
