The self-titled 2006 debut album by the American stoner-doom band Witch is widely considered a heavy, fuzzy classic of modern retro-rock. Formed in 2005 by J Mascis (the legendary frontman of Dinosaur Jr.) and bassist Dave Sweetapple, the band subverted expectations by putting Mascis behind the drum kit rather than on guitar. Joined by vocalist/guitarist Kyle Thomas (King Tuff) and guitarist Asa Irons, the supergroup delivers a raw, unpolished tribute to early Black Sabbath and late-60s psychedelia.
