Au Revoir, Mogadishu: Volume 1 - Songs From Before the War is a seminal compilation of 1970s and 1980s Somali music. Compiled by Berlin-based researcher Nicolas Sheikholeslami (founder of ÇAYKH Recordings), it played a key role in the global rediscovery of Somalia's pre-civil war "Golden Era". A fusion of traditional Somali folk with Western funk, disco, rock, and reggae, influenced by Arabic and Indian sounds. Originally released as a cassette and digital mixtape. The success of this mixtape led Sheikholeslami to co-curate the Grammy-nominated compilation Sweet As Broken Dates on Ostinato Records.
