Dissection's Storm of the Light's Bane (1995) is widely revered as a masterpiece of extreme metal, serving as the definitive blueprint for the melodic black/death metal genre. Released via Nuclear Blast Records, this sophomore effort refined the foundational sound of their 1993 debut, The Somberlain, blending the frostbitten atmosphere of the Norwegian second-wave black metal scene with the technical, harmony-driven precision of Swedish melodic death metal.
