Fool's Mate is the debut solo studio album by English singer-songwriter Peter Hammill, originally released in July 1971. It features a collection of shorter, more pop-oriented songs compared to his work with the progressive rock band Van der Graaf Generator. Hammill is backed by all his Van der Graaf Generator bandmates (Hugh Banton, David Jackson, Nic Potter, and Guy Evans), with guest appearances from Robert Fripp (King Crimson) on guitar and members of Lindisfarne (Rod Clements, Ray Jackson).
