Donovan’s 1966 masterpiece, Sunshine Superman, is widely celebrated as one of the first and most influential psychedelic folk albums. Recorded when Donovan was only 19, the album marked a dramatic shift from his early acoustic "British Dylan" persona into a pioneer of the "flower power" sound. Modern and retrospective reviews generally view the album as a high-water mark in 60s pop. Producer Mickie Most helped create a "sparse, swinging, bass-heavy style" that blended folk with jazz, classical, and Indian raga.
