The La's self-titled 1990 debut remains one of the gems of British guitar history. Released by Go! Discs against the wishes of the band's enigmatic, obsessively perfectionist frontman Lee Mavers, this lone album inadvertently served as the sonic blueprint for the Britpop explosion of the 1990s. It rejected the synth-heavy overproduction of the late 1980s in favour of a raw, melodic, and completely timeless sound.
