Released on June 16, 1972, Roxy Music’s self-titled debut album is widely regarded as one of the finest and most influential debut albums in rock history. Acting as rock music's first true postmodern masterpiece, the album violently collided pop culture references, old Hollywood glamour, and futuristic studio experimentation. Produced by King Crimson lyricist Peter Sinfield, it launched the band to #10 on the UK charts and laid the foundational blueprint for punk, new wave, and synth-pop.

The album was adorned with a cover photograph by Karl Stoecker who would provide images for many of their later albums. The model Kari-Ann Moller was a former Bond Girl and is married to Mick Jagger's brother Chris. She also appeared on the cover of Mott the Hoople's album The Hoople.
