Geese is an American Indie band formed 2016 in Brooklyn New York by Cameron Winter (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Max Bassin (drums), Emily Green (guitar), Dominic DiGesu (bass), and Foster Hudson (guitar). Foster Hudson left the band in 2023, and they remained a four-piece. The young band is one of the most heavily hyped groups operating today and their albums are attracting widespread critical acclaim. Led by frontman Cameron Winter, whose vocals have been compared to no lesser talents than Thom Yorke of Radiohead, Ian McCulloch of Echo & the Bunnymen, and The Fall's Mark E Smith. Likewise, the band's sound incorporates these influences and has been described as "Radiohead with blues-psych influences". The bandmembers themselves have said they were influenced by the Velvet Underground, Television, the Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Radiohead, Women, Deerhunter, Animal Collective, Ween, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Harry Nilsson, the Beatles and Funkadelic. The band formed while the members were attending Brooklyn Friends School and Little Red School House in New York City. During high school, they practiced and recorded material in the basement of Bassin's home in Fort Greene. The band name came from guitarist Emily Green's nickname "Goose." Intending to break up and go to College once they graduated high school in 2020, their self-produced demos attracted attention from several record labels, including 4AD, Fat Possum, and Sub Pop. Ultimately, they signed with Partisan Records. Standout releases include the albums Projector (2021), 3D Country (2023), Getting Killed (2025), and the EP 4D Country (2023). Cameron Winter also released the excellent solo album Heavy Metal in 2024. Writing in GQ Magazine, renowned music journalist Grayson Haver Currin was effusive in his praise of Geese: "I have maybe never been so stirred by the possibilities of a young band, by their potential to make something new out of all they have learned and are actively learning. They may be Gen Z’s first great American rock band, the rare group in 2025 that reorients our attention toward rock’s future, away from its past." Cameron Winter whose mother, Molly Roden Winter, is a writer and father, Stewart Winter, a composer for TV and film, has been described as "a songwriter par excellence" by Walden Green of Pitchfork. Winter's lyrics have been noted for both their cathartic and surreal qualities, with the great Nick Cave describing his lyrics on Heavy Metal as "brilliant" and "blistering".
