Released in March 1969, A Salty Dog is widely considered the creative high-water mark of Procol Harum’s career, a sweeping proto-progressive rock masterpiece that gracefully bridges the gap between classical grandiosity and earthy American roots music. Following their hastily recorded 1967 debut and the dense experimentation of Shine On Brightly, their third studio album gave the band the necessary time at Abbey Road Studios to fully flesh out their sonic ambitions.
