Thelonious Monk | Monk (w/ Sonny Rollins & Frank Foster) | Album

Monk (1954), featuring Sonny Rollins and Frank Foster, captures the legendary pianist at a critical, transitional crossroads in his career. Recorded across two sessions for Prestige Records between late 1953 and mid-1954, the album is a fascinating, highly rewarding document of Hard Bop's infancy that balances Monk's signature idiosyncrasies with the melodic firepower of two distinct tenor saxophone titans.

Artwork designed by Andy Warhol. As a graphic artist Warhol began designing album covers in the 1950s for Jazz discs on Blue Note Records before he bacame famous.
