Undercurrent is the Fifth studio album from cool jazz supremo Bill Evans, originally released in 1962. Classically trained pianist Evans together with guitarist Jim Hall deliver a master class of softly flowing mellow jazz based, as the title suggests, on a water theme. After leaving Miles Davis' Sextet, Evans released four masterpiece works back-to-back between '59-'62 which defined the "cool jazz" style: Everybody Digs Bill Evans, Portrait in Jazz, Explorations and Undercurrent. Evans was a brilliant jazz pianist with a distinctive touch and an impressionist style, beautifully captured on this languid, flowing album which just sounds better and better with repeated listens.
