Alan Parker | Afro Rock (w/ John Cameron) | Album
Originally released in 1973 as part of the legendary KPM 1000 series, Afro Rock (KPM 1130) is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of 1970s library music. Composed by British masters Alan Parker and John Cameron, the album is a high-octane blend of hard funk, jazz, and African-inspired percussion. The album is split conceptually between the two composers: Alan Parker’s side features a heavier, rock-influenced approach. Listeners often compare his tracks to the raw energy of Traffic or Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express, driven by fuzzed-up wah-wah guitars, Hammond B3 organ, and aggressive percussion. John Cameron’s side tends toward a jazzier, more atmospheric feel. His contributions often feature melodic woodwinds, spacey flutes, and even "hot" harps, creating a sound Cameron himself described as "heavy duty drum-and-bass salsa music"
