Released in July 2022 through Everlasting Spew Records, Ascetic Reflection by Australian death metal trio Altars is a work of modern dissonant death metal. Arriving nine years after their acclaimed 2013 debut Paramnesia, the album marks a return following a long dormancy caused by the departure of founding vocalist/bassist Cale Schmidt. With a revamped lineup featuring Brendan Sloan (of Convulsing) on vocals/bass, alongside guitarist Lewis Fischer and drummer Alan Cadman, Altars delivers a record that bridges traditional death metal weight with avant-garde chaos.
