The self-titled 1978 album Automat is a fascinating, historically significant relic of late-1970s avant-garde electronic pop and progressive electronic music. Recorded by Italian soundtrack composers Claudio Gizzi and Romano Musumarra, alongside sound engineer Mario Maggi, the album is an impressive technical feat: it was performed entirely—including the percussion—using the rare, custom MCS70 analog synthesizer designed by Maggi himself.
