Blue Cheer's self-titled fourth studio album, Blue Cheer (released in December 1969), is a dramatic, unexpected pivot for the San Francisco band. Famous for pioneering a deafening, fuzz-drenched prototype of heavy metal on their first two records, this 1969 release largely abandons the "bone-crushing onslaught" of their origins in favour of a subtle, rootsy blues-rock and country-rock direction.
