Bob Dylan "Self Portrait"
LP (NEW) - Vinyl, Sundazed Music, US, 2009, LP 5122, 2xLP, Reissue, Gatefold Sleeve
Bob Dylan’s tenth studio album, Self Portrait (1970), is one of the most infamous releases in rock history. While it reached No. 1 in the UK and No. 4 in the US, it was met with near-universal critical hostility upon its release. The album’s reputation was defined by Greil Marcus’s legendary opening line in his Rolling Stone review: “What is this shit?”. Coming after a string of 1960s classics, fans and critics were baffled by a double album filled with covers of pop and folk standards, "Nashville Skyline" crooning voice that replaced his signature abrasive delivery, live recordings from the 1969 Isle of Wight Festival, plus instrumentals, such as "All the Tired Horses," which features a female choir but no vocals from Dylan himself.
Bob Dylan's 1970 solo album Self Portrait featured a cover painting by Bob himself. Dylan is an acomplished visual artist and created covers for several other albums include 'Planet Waves' and The Band's 'Songs from Big Pink'.
