Brian Auger's Oblivion Express "Second Wind"

LP (NEW) - Vinyl, Soul Bank Music, Europe, 2022, SBM021LP, 4062548040081, Reissue

Released in April 1972, Second Wind is widely considered a pivotal "course correction" for Brian Auger's Oblivion Express, steering the band back toward the fiery jazz-fusion and heavy R&B grooves of their debut after the more subdued A Better Land. Critics generally view it as a high point in Auger's discography, praised for its tight rhythm section and the introduction of vocalist Alex Ligertwood, whose soulful, high-register style would later lead him to fame with Santana. The album's centerpiece is a "groove jazz" reimagining of the Eddie Harris classic.
