Released in 1973, Captain Beyond's Sufficiently Breathless stands as a highly polarizing follow-up to one of the greatest heavy psych masterpieces of the 1970s. Following the departure of core composer and powerhouse drummer Bobby Caldwell, the remaining "supergroup" members—vocalist Rod Evans (ex-Deep Purple), guitarist Larry "Rhino" Reinhardt, and bassist Lee Dorman (both ex-Iron Butterfly)—pivoted toward a completely different sonic landscape.
