Carpenters | A Song For You | Album

The Carpenters' 1972 album A Song For You is widely considered the artistic pinnacle and definitive classic of their career. Released at the height of their global fame, it is a hit-studded near-concept album that successfully transitions the duo from "easy listening" into sophisticated pop/rock territory. Critics and fans alike praise Karen Carpenter’s lead vocals for their "ghostly, eerie" clarity and emotional depth. Her performance on the title track-a cover of Leon Russell's masterwork-is often cited as the definitive version of the song.
