The Moon and the Melodies (1986) is a collaborative ambient dream-pop album by Cocteau Twins and American composer Harold Budd. The 8-track album blends the band's ethereal, atmospheric sound with piano-driven, improvised soundscapes, featuring notable tracks like "Sea, Swallow Me". The collaboration was born out of a desire for a new, improvised sound, with Simon Raymonde initiating contact with ambient pioneer Harold Budd. The project is characterized by its free-form, improvisational nature.
