Released in 1970, Sisyphus by Cold Blood is widely considered the San Francisco horn band's best and most cohesive album. Their second release on music impresario Bill Graham’s San Francisco Records label, the album marked a deliberate shift away from the blues covers of their 1969 debut toward a darker, tighter, and significantly funkier jazz-rock sound. Fronted by the powerful, Janis Joplin-esque vocals of Lydia Pense, the record blends aggressive brass arrangements with heavy West Coast rhythms.
