Dissection | The Somberlain | Album

Released on 3 December 1993 through No Fashion Records, Dissection’s debut studio album, The Somberlain, stands as a monumental pillar in extreme music. It effectively pioneered the melodic black metal subgenre. While contemporary Norwegian bands like Mayhem and Darkthrone were weaponising raw, lo-fi production, this young Swedish quartet—led by the late Jon Nödtveidt—delivered a masterclass in dark atmosphere, razor-sharp technicality, and elegant classicism.
