Far East Suite is a critically acclaimed 1967 concept album by Duke Ellington and his orchestra, inspired by their tour of the Middle and Far East. It is considered one of Ellington and Billy Strayhorn's masterpieces and won a Grammy Award in 1968. The album features nine original compositions by Duke Ellington and his long-time collaborator Billy Strayhorn, recorded in New York City in December 1966. Reviewers praise the album for its subtle blend of jazz with "Eastern modes" without sounding self-conscious or relying on non-traditional instruments. Instead, the music creates an impressionistic "aural tour" using the unique voices of the band's star soloists.
