Durutti Column | The Return of the Durutti Column (Orig.) | Album
Regular price
The Return of the Durutti Column, released in January 1980 as the debut album for The Durutti Column, remains one of the most anomalies-turned-classics in the Factory Records catalogue. Primarily the solo vehicle for Manchester virtuoso Vini Reilly, the album stands as a foundational text for ambient post-rock, dream pop, and minimalist instrumentation. Decades later, its fragile beauty has proven incredibly robust, influencing artists ranging from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Frank Ocean
First released in 1980 by Factory Records in a sandpaper sleeve, inspired by situationist Guy Debord's book "Mémoires", which was housed in a sandpaper cover to destroy other books on the shelf. The sandpaper sleeve was assembled by members of Joy Division, A Certain Ratio, and others, with Ian Curtis himself doing the glueing.
