Originally released as a four-track EP in 1979 (and later expanded into a compilation), Sonic Investigations (Of the Trivial) is the foundational work of Melbourne post-punk duo Essendon Airport. It is widely regarded as a minimalist masterpiece that predated many developments in electronic and experimental music. The Sonic ProfileFormed by David Chesworth and Robert Goodge, the group utilised a Wurlitzer electric piano, a guitar, and a homemade drum machine built from magazine plans. The resulting sound is a "gentle and inquisitive" blend of minimalism, proto-electronica, and jazz.
