Released in October 1971, Fearless is widely considered one of the strongest efforts by the British progressive rock band Family. This album marked a turning point for the group, featuring the debut of bassist John Wetton (later of King Crimson and Asia), whose presence provided a more solid, "anchored" sound to their eclectic arrangements. The album is a "neat blend" of rock, folk, jazz, and blues influences. Critics often highlight its innovative use of instrumentation. Tracks range from "bar room honky tonk" (Sat’d’y Barfly) to "prog rock" (Spanish Tide, Burning Bridges) and even jazz-influenced pieces (Crinkly Grin).

The first release of Fearless in 1971 on the Reprise label came with a 4x multi-gatefold sleeve with each stepped layer of the cover opening out.
