Released on June 3, 2008, by Sub Pop and Bella Union, Fleet Foxes' eponymous debut album is a landmark of 21st-century indie folk. Widely praised as one of the greatest debut albums, it captured a pastoral, timeless atmosphere that felt unmoored from the urban indie rock dominating the late 2000s. Led by frontman Robin Pecknold, the Seattle quintet blended multi-part Gregorian-style harmonies with baroque pop arrangements to create an instantly comforting, nostalgic world.
